Amazon has rolled out more than 40,000 electric delivery vans across the United States, and more than 50,000 worldwide, toward a 100,000 van goal by 2030

Rivian, the vans manufacturer, reports its own revenue from Amazon rose from 176 million dollars to 554 million dollars in a single quarter, while Amazon also cuts its parcel volume with the United States Postal Service by 20%.

How many electric delivery vans does Amazon have

Amazon states how many electric delivery vans it operates in its own newsroom pages, more than 40,000 across the United States and more than 50,000 across its global operations. The vans are built with Rivian, an electric vehicle maker, and Amazon has committed to putting 100,000 electric delivery vans on the road worldwide by 2030. The United States fleet already delivers in thousands of cities, including Baltimore, Chicago, Houston, New York and Seattle, and those vans carried more than 1 billion packages to United States customers in 2024. Amazon has also installed more than 50,000 chargers across more than 250 delivery stations to keep the vans running. Brandi Monroe, a driver for Kangaroo Direct, an Amazon delivery contractor based in the Baltimore area, describes what she likes about driving one.

Rivian revenue from Amazon more than tripled in a year

Rivian, the company that builds Amazon electric vans, reports its own revenue from Amazon in the quarterly financial report public companies must file with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the government agency that regulates stock markets, separate from anything Amazon itself has announced. Rivian recorded 176 million dollars in revenue from Amazon in the second quarter of 2025 and 554 million dollars in the second quarter of 2026, a rise of roughly 3.1 times, arithmetic done for this article. Over the first 6 months of each year the rise was steeper, from 275 million dollars to 1,022 million dollars, roughly 3.7 times. Rivian states this revenue relates mainly to van sales and falls inside its automotive business segment. The same filing also names Amazon as a principal owner of Rivian, a major shareholder with financial ties the filing must disclose, a detail that does not appear in the public statements either company has made about the partnership.

Amazon adds heavy duty electric trucks to move freight, not packages

Amazon is also adding electric trucks to what the freight industry calls the middle mile, the trucking between warehouses that never reaches a customer household, not to the last mile fleet of vans that does. Einride, a freight technology company, is deploying 75 heavy duty electric trucks for Amazon across 5 United States locations, expected to cover up to 3 million electric transport miles a year. That deal sits apart from the van fleet and from the Postal Service change described below. None of the 5 sources for this article ties the truck deployment to any decision about package delivery volume.

Amazon cuts Postal Service parcel volume by 20%

Amazon has also signed a new delivery agreement with the United States Postal Service that cuts its parcel volume with the agency by 20%, to about 1 billion parcels a year. The Postal Service currently earns 6 billion dollars a year from Amazon, its largest customer, about 7.5% of the agency total revenue, against a 9.5 billion dollar net loss in fiscal year 2025. Amazon has invested 4 billion dollars over the past year building its own rural delivery infrastructure, the routes and depots the Postal Service used to cover. Nikhil Varshney, a supply chain manager at Wayfair who tracks the parcel industry, says Amazon has not walked away completely because rural America is still expensive to cover alone, and the Postal Service universal service obligation, its legal duty to deliver everywhere in the country, currently absorbs part of that cost.
