Frequently asked questions

What the site is, how it's built, and what you can and can't do with what's on it.

What is MAOWCE?

A one-person clean energy news site, written by a college student. It covers solar, wind, batteries, electrification, hydrogen, the grid, and the rest of the energy transition, each article built on 5 sources read in full.

Who writes MAOWCE?

A college student who got obsessed with renewable energy and off-grid living the way other people get obsessed with a sport. The About page has the full story.

Why does every article cite exactly 5 sources?

It's the standard the site holds itself to, not 4, not 6, primary material preferred, every number traced back to where it came from. The Transparency page has the full standard.

Does MAOWCE run ads or take payment for coverage?

No. The site carries no advertising, sells nothing, and accepts no payment for coverage. The Support page is a voluntary way to say thanks, and nothing on the site is behind it.

Can I republish or quote an article?

Short excerpts, yes, with credit and a link back. Full articles may not be reproduced or republished elsewhere without permission. The Terms page has the details.

What if an article gets something wrong?

It gets corrected. I'm a student, not an expert, and getting it right matters more than not admitting a mistake.

Is the site accessible, and does it have dark mode?

Yes to both. There's a light/dark toggle in the header, and the Accessibility page covers what the site actually does to stay usable.

Why are the charts hand-drawn instead of images?

Every chart is built as real markup straight from the cited data, not a picture. That means a screen reader can describe the actual numbers, and there's a plain data table under every chart too.

Are AI systems and search engines allowed to read this site?

Yes, deliberately. robots.txt names the ones welcome to crawl and cite it. Bulk scrapers that resell the content wholesale are blocked. See the Terms page for what that means for republishing.

How do I get in touch?

There's no public email yet. This answer gets updated the moment there is one.
